Still trying to coordinate the trip to Tokyo. We want to meet with as many volunteers as possible, while dropping off kittens and cats at new homes, and all of this working around individual family vacation schedules. We’re a bit zapped here, as the heat makes more vigilant shelter cleanup necessary. It’s hot sweaty work, but thankfully, the new enclosures make it easier. Even the kittens spread out on the concrete for afternoon naps these warm days, but they perk up when we go in to clean or say hello. Yesterday I went back and forth between computer work, and cleaning projects, so that I could take the occasional break and cool off. I also finished making the kitty sombrero for George to wear for our upcoming party photo! David was dubious about this enterprise, and George was certainly not impressed, but he finally let me rest it on his head while he was relaxing. Though I really wanted to get a nice shot of George, we tried it on a few of the other cats to see if they would do any better. Chelsea with her Eeyore type personality (Oh a hat. Thank you SO much for thinking of me. Not exactly the tin of tuna I was hoping for, but happy to amuse…) did the best. The little sombrero, did attract attention of some kind–everyone was keen to play with it, as long as it wasn’t on THEIR heads. Summer kitten enclosure photos…
The vet says Willy is eating well! It’s good news, as he’s so very young, and we never know if they’ll adapt to bottle feeding. He’s a reminder of the potentially cruel cycle for kittens here. Mother cats who give birth outside often lose complete litters to crows or human intervention very early on, and get pregnant again right away. Willy was found on the same University campus as Chobi, who looks very similar and could have actually been separated from the same mother cat several months earlier. The students are keeping an eye out for the mother cat, but we plan to go out and take a look around ourselves in the next week or so. Not sure if you can see this album, but a volunteer came out to take pictures recently and got some cute ones of Chobi. He uploaded them to this site…

I bet the cats love the cool cement on a hot day…I’m sure you do the old ice cube in the drinking water trick. I do that here in Maine too even though I do give them fresh water twice a day. Although my Armand would MUCH rather drink out of the sink if I let the tap water drip…
I love the picture of the little grey tabby with his or her belly up! My Lucius (also a tabby, but long haired) LOVES to sleep with his belly up and leaned against a wall.
We change the water several times a day! Both of the new enclosures have convenient water access, making this so much easier to do than before.
That’s Mipple–such a confident and happy little kitten! She and Mew have been reserved for adoption and are headed to a new home in the Tokyo area at the end of August. The two have really bonded, after we lost poor Maple, so I’m happy they’ll go out together.
So much cuteness!
