Shopping and hoping

So far, so good…no bad news from the vet, and Blossom (got her new name today via the Power Puff Girls!) is a little more active and drinking well from a syringe. She’s eaten a few bites on her own, but she is obviously still under the weather. Still on the hot water bottle, though I’ve turned the heater off until later. Didn’t get my nap, but plan to try to crash after David gets back from classes tonight.

Came back from class this afternoon and went out shopping for kitten food with Saku and her mom Misato, before David left for his classes. Can now breathe a sigh of relief that our stocks of kitten food have been replenished thanks to several recent donations (Thank you!!). On the way back we stopped off at animal control where we picked up 3 kittens that were surrendered today. They look like healthy 2 month olds, though were very hungry and scared. I put a bowl of food in their carrier on the way back, and they devoured it. When we got back to the shelter I prepared a cage for them, and they began to calm down a bit. I think all seem friendly, and will be fine once they adjust to their new situation. Saku and Misato named them after characters from Saku’s favorite anime these days. They are Syrup (who loves pancakes!), Coco, and Nuts. They can be seen on their Rescue List links.

Now preparing for David to go out to Tokyo this weekend to take a bunch of kittens. Not enough hours in the day to go to all of the places in Tokyo that he really needs to go, if he takes kittens to PAWS and to new homes. We’ve got to get more help with kittens in Tokyo, but have had a difficult time with this. I can’t say no when I know that it means that kittens will be sent to be gassed, and also know that there are plenty of adopters looking for kittens in Tokyo or other big cities. We’re just so far out into the countryside that it makes organizing volunteer efforts in urban areas very time consuming–and with all of the rescue work and TNR, not to mention English teaching to fund it, time is not something we have enough of. A new mail from someone today interested in fostering/volunteering, and David plans to meet with someone else in Tokyo, wanting to volunteer. We’ll hang in there. I feel sure that we’re eventually going to come across the people who are meant to help us rehome these kittens in Tokyo and in other big cities throughout Japan.

Gina, you are the BEST! I can’t tell you how amazed we are at the cute videos and pictures. Thanks very much for taking care of the kitties and making sure those who might want to adopt them know how very cute they are!

Just putting one foot in front of the other these days–I forget sometimes, how far we’ve come! It’s true that though the days are long, we’re no longer working alone. And, not just in the physical help we’re getting, but also in the supportive messages like yours across the miles! They perk up the day, often put a smile on my face, and let me know that what I’m doing everyday is not so crazy after all. ;)

What beautiful little babies!

Its really wonderful to hear these stories and watch your organization grow. Even as beautiful plants take time to grow with care and love, so does everything worthwhile in life.

In caring for these weak and helpless animals, each volunteer and caretaker (even PAWS) adds another branch to your fine tree….although you may say that the tiredness and sleepless nights are the fertilizer that you have to spread to help it grow :) (LOL)

I really admire you and David for constantly taking in more kittens and cats when you are stetched so thin. Hopefully, you will soon have more volunteers.

The new kittens are adorable. I hope Blossom continues to improve and is soon on her way to good health.
