One of my students wrote asking for help with a kitten she and her friends found on their university campus. They weren’t sure if the mother cat lost it, or if it had been abandoned there. At only one week old, it needed immediate care, which they did a good job providing. They bought and syringe-fed special kitten milk, kept it warm with a hot water bottle, and helped it to eliminate. We kept it at the shelter for one long night of regular 2 hour feedings, as it still wasn’t sucking from a bottle, and it finally started drinking well in the early hours of the morning. Now its staying at the vet’s clinic, and the next plan is to find the mother cat, which they think they’ve seen around.
David went out to Kyoto today to bring a cage to a guy who wants to try to socialize two kittens that have been hanging around outside his place. The mother cat has already been spayed. We have loaned out several cages this season for much the same purpose. It’s much easier to do this when the kittens are younger, but people often don’t see them hanging around until they are older, and it’s safer for the mother to bring them out with her for food. Anyway, we’re happy to help people try, as the best future for these kittens would be for them to become friendly and to be adopted.
I’ve been trying to reorganize the website, since I returned from my visit to ARK. Working on the computer can be so tedious and time consuming when you don’t really know what you’re doing. I know a few tricks, which mostly involve copying code, but I often find myself unable to do the things I’d like to be able to do. Hopefully we’ll find someone with a better head for all of this than mine, someday soon! Valerie and Melody are still staying in the house, and they did their best to keep me company while I worked. They tried their paws at typing on more than one occasion. It is clearly frustrating for them, that the best seat in the house (my lap) is occupied with a hard button covered object, which requires most of my attention. At some point I was petting Melody with my left hand, and Valerie was sitting on my shoulder rubbing against my head, while I typed with my right hand!
What a beautiful little black and white kitten! The mother cat may have been frightened away from the kitten or may have abandoned it. I hope the poor little thing survives. I love the tuxedo coloring!
My cats are frequently frustrated by my computer typing activities. They see the lap but don’t realize that laying right in front of the keyboard or on my arms is counter productive for me. My cats think its all about them….and much of the time they are right!
