Birdie

in 2005, Birdie was found abandoned in front of
a supermarket, in a cardboard box with her 2 siblings. Birdie was FIV
positive, and suffering from chronic renal failure. She passed away at the shelter on December 3, 2009.

Birdie and Poppy, both taking it easy in a spot of autumn sunshine and on a soft blanket in front of the heater.

Birdie's foster family will be leaving
Japan, so Birdie has come back to stay at the shelter. They have done a
wonderful job caring for Birdie, particularly given her special needs.
This was a kind chance for her to have a home, which is what we hope
that all of our rescued kitties will get to experience. Health issues
related to FIV have taken away some of her vitality, but her spark is
still strong. One of the shelter's much loved characters, she'd "chirp"
at visitors until they would enter the enclosure to give her some
attention. She has settled back in to life here well, though she's
staying inside the house with us, rather than in any of the shelter
areas. She spends her days on a blanket in the sun, in front of the
window, rolling on her back and purring. She loves to be brushed, and
to play with the toy mouse on a string, that her foster family sent
back with her! Also a big fan of her scratching board and of crawling
under the covers. She spends her nights on her cushion in a nook,
between the wall and a panel heater, where she keeps toasty warm.
Chicken seems to be her favorite food, as her foster family told us,
and she has been able to nibble at food throughout the day. We decided
to wait several days to let her adjust, before going for an evaluation
from our local vet, hoping to keep the stress of her transition to a
minimum.
