Koko ADOPTED!
Koko was taken to animal control to be destroyed, along with his two siblings, on June 17, 2009. JCN was able to intervene, thanks to a new partnership program in which we help to spay mother cats and rescue surrendered kittens. He came to the JCN Kansai shelter on June 17, at 8 weeks of age, and went to stay in a Tokyo foster home on August 14. Koko is a beautiful, energetic kitten. He was adopted in Tokyo, on September 26, 2009.

9/30/10 - "I am sitting down working with Koko and Ida next to me, so thought I'd post a quick e-mail with pictures to you. I think I mentioned in my last e-mail at the end of last year that Koko was suffering from a digestion problem which meant he could not be castrated immediately. Eventually we went ahead with the procedure at the beginning of this year, no problems. I'll send you a copy of the certificate. Please keep the 'deposit' as a small donation from us. The intestine problem went on until this summer. Once Koko had reached the 1 year old stage the vet said his system should have settled. So he had multiple tests to try and figure out the problem. But no clues. Next step was to have a more invasive procedure, which we were reluctant to have, so decided to wait until returning from our summer holidays. On our return Koko seemed to be cured, no more smelliness or diarreoa! We tried him on little bits of food which normally would have caused him a problem, but this time all was fine. We were so amazed and happy for the little lad! Since then he gets his favourite food (in moderation) every day and has become generally happier and calmer. This week I let him out onto our enclosed terrace all day, with Ida. He ate chives, watched birds and played with beetles all day and then slept so soundly. Today Both cats have snuggled up together next to me, it's raining :o(, and licked each other clean. They still fight occasionally but we are seeing big steps of progress :o)

10/29/09 - "We wanted to send you a few pictures of Koko settling into his new home - he loves playing and snuggling with the children and has lots of "favourite" spots to have a nap, including on my desk! Regarding his health, Koko's tummy still hasn't fully settled. We have been to the vet a couple of times, the latest today and now have a diagnosis of Colitis. So he is on a long dose of medication which will hopefully shift it. Then we can move on and finish his injections, the vet doesn't want to do them until he is feeling better. But in himself he is as fun, friendly and daredevil as always."

9/28/09 - "Koko has been a wee angel since he arrived, he and Ida are still not sure what to make of each other, they are getting closer but there is still some holding back on Ida's front - Koko would have made friends inside the first few seconds!

He has been a great ambassador for you guys, no issues at all, he has used the toilet from day one, no real scratching issues and great with the kids.

Unless anything untowards happens I would suspect that we may have a breakthrough in the next few days with the 2 cats, their physical tolerance of each others proximity is massively reducing and they are now sleeping in the same room (our room) at night, although Koko has taken a liking to our daughters room at night, while she goes to sleep - which is very cute!"

Attached are some pix of Koko (We called him Grey) and some info on this energetic and smart little guy.

Koko is a big and strong four month old male tabby kitten. He is also very very beautiful cat with gorgeous markings. white feet and chest. We have been fostering Koko for four weeks and he has been both a handful (he is so active) and a joy (so friendly and loving) to have. He is extremely smart, strong, of course inquisitive. He loves to play with cat toys, run around the house, plays well with other cats, and will rub up against your legs as you walk. It's so cute. We get the feeling he does not like to be along as when people are around he likes to play and be played with but go into another room and he will suddenly come and just want to be with you and be where you are. For a four month old kitten he is extremely big, well adjusted to people, and very very affectionate. Koko is currently in a caring home very close to Shinagawa Station in Tokyo and you may come and see him anytime.
