Gino
On August 8, at around 10 weeks of
age, Gino was found abandoned near the JCN Kansai shelter. Another 10
week old kitten, Guinness,
was found a few days later, and we assume that Gino and Guinness are
siblings. 3 month old Tabitha was
found at the same time as Guinness. Gino was thin and very hungry, but had no
other obvious health problems. A playful kitten with
an engaging personality, he
stayed for a time at the JCN Kansai shelter, and then with Guinness in
a foster home in Kyoto. Over time, he developed concerning health
issues, but no clear diagnosis could be made, and his condition seemed
to improve. However, a sudden sharp decline in health eventually led
the
veterinarian to a firm diagnosis of FIP. Gino was nursed through a
comfortable week in the special
needs area of the JCN Kansai shelter.
He couldn't eat on his own, so required syringe feeding and regular
drips, but he seemed happy and loved spending sunny mornings out in the
window box. When his health deteriorated to the point at which we
could
see that he was in obvious distress, we decided that it was time to let
him go. Gino passed away peacefully at the veterinary clinic on
December 10, 2010. He will be loved and remembered by the family that
we are so glad that he had, even for a brief time, and by those of us
here who took care of him.
